Post by Daniel09 18.05.09 14:41

I think it really depends on who you ask. Asetianism can be considered a sect of Egyptian religion adapted to modern days. This is because of the worship of the Goddess Aset. Also, while Christianity and Catholicism is widely abused, the religion by itself is not bad. It is also a way of life if you look at it from the perspective I believe you are currently viewing Asetianism.

Asetianism Empty Re: Asetianism

Post by Talibah 18.05.09 16:19

Religion: noun: A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

When one looks at the literal meaning of religion, I think it is unwise to associate it with Christian/catholic/Islamic god worship only. Of course, that is only my perspective of it.

Having said that, Asetianism is indeed strongly about culture, way of life, and absolute loyalty towards Aset. So whilst it is not classified as a religion per se by Asetians, if one breaks down the meaning of the word to it's bare basics, it could be applied loosely.

I agree with you, Talibah. I do believe that Asetianism can be considered a religion and is seen as a religion by several scholars. It certainly is different from many religions we know, and it also is a metaphysical tradition and spiritual path, no doubts... but is falls under the category of a religion.

Daniel, I don't think Asetianism is a sect of Egyptian religion adapted to modern days. I believe that Asetianism is the predecessor of the Egyptian religion seen in most modern dynastic times. Asetianism is the religion of Kemet during the Sep Tepy and so forth, that later was changed, altered and disguised by mankind (and probably by the Asetians themselves too!) along the centuries. You disagree? You see it more as a modern version of the old tradition? This is a good subject for debate among us.

Post by Daniel09 19.05.09 15:22

I simply meant it was adapted to modern days in that it has been presented in a fashion that appears very new age and fascinating to people. I am well aware it is an extremely ancient religion, and I meant no disrespect to Aset when I said that. (to be honest, after I had posted it and read it again, I realized I should not have phrased it so. Sometimes I really miss the edit function)

Asetianism Empty Re: Asetianism

Post by Karnath 19.05.09 15:51

Greetings.

Daniel09, it could indeed be said it was adapted to modern days if, in fact, you were given methods and rituals, so that you could see that the ancient rituals can't be done inside the Ancient Temples anymore. At least as it was Once possible. But I think that is also quite implicit. It's quite obvious that being able to enter such Sacred Havens in Egypt is a very rare event, to anyone really. So, let us say that the ritual tradition will have to be adapted to modern days, especially since the Sacred Temples will have to be modern days' temples, like a home or an-everchanging ('till it's modern) forest. So, what you said is not totally wrong.

Considering the topic of this post itself, I personally consider Asetianism a religion, a philosophy and a way of life. Even if there was no access to the Old Teachings at all, if I believed the Ancient Kemetic Tradition to my Truth, particularly the cult of Aset, I would be following a sort of Asetianism.

Best regards,
Karnath.

devilsC_U_N_T,

same as others, I see Asetianism as both a religion, and a way of life. Perhaps the reason why you say "it is no religion", is because you have a bad taste in your mouth from what the modern religion has shown you. Or you see no light in its teachings.

I assumed. The religions of today truly give a bad name to the word “religion”, by the ways they try to teach their path and beliefs, nearly shoving it down the throat of others. Although the most clear example of this way of teaching, to me at least, is shown in the Islamic religion. Simply how they try to shove their beliefs down people's throats, using tools such as fear and guilt, alone, gives a sickening name to “religion”. Just pick up their holy Qur'an, a translated one, and you will be quite shocked.

Can we say that Asetianism was the first religion that existed?

Is there parallels between the religious aspects of Asetianism and Kemeticism?

Setazel:

As far as I know, Kemeticism is not a religion but a cultural denomination. It comes from the term "Kemet", which means "Black Land" and is the ancient name of Egypt. Kemeticism refers to magickal and occult practises inspired on / derived from ancient Egypt. So, in a way, Asetians are Kemetic. In fact they call themselves "The Kemetic Order of Aset Ka".

Asetianism Empty Re: Asetianism

Post by Victor 28.02.10 6:28

Asetianism was in fact the "religion" or tradition that prevailed in several eras within the vast timeframe of Ancient Egyptian dominion. Given its initiatory nature and depth of its metaphysical knowledge, it was in many situations silenced after the Asetians leaving the throne of Egypt, so that its knowledge wouldn't fall in the wrong hands after the consecutive invasions of the Egyptian homeland and later foreign occupation in both the Greco-Roman periods and in the Persian empire. This is one of the reasons why you can find so many contradicting stories and details when it comes to the Ancient Egyptian religious culture, a reason that leaves Egyptologists so confused and with so many unanswered questions.

A curious theory is that although most defaces of the hieroglyphs and art within the Ancient Egyptian temples happened during the times of war and especially done by angry Christians during the Roman occupation, some very specific defaces were done by the temple priests before being captured or executed. Some speculate that they had secret instructions to eliminate and deface several key elements from the walls, hieroglyphs and sigils so that the overall magickal key would be lost, and not taken by the invading forces. Like a safety mechanism that would make a proper magickal interpretation and decoding not possible, safeguarding the inner spiritual mysteries by only leaving certain elements behind. This may very well explain why the old language and magick was lost and how the Asetian tradition was kept silenced during the forthcoming medieval times, not to mention that it is a very wise warfare technique, and certainly something we can imagine coming out of an always aware Asetian mind. Preparing for a future in the realms of a silent Empire, the Asetians removed any direct trace of their existence in history, leaving only clues, symbols and small aspects that only the wise could trace and only their allies could interpret. In this way, they managed to secretly awaken only the right souls, and turn history, symbolism and religion into their own very secret natural initiation.
Maktub would be the ideal person to explain this, certainly in a far more eloquent way than myself. However, not all details were lost and not all references were perfectly eliminated. A good example of this is the Asetian Temple of Philae, that still has Aset Ka written in hieroglyphs among its initiatory walls.

Very insightful post Victor .Based on my own observations on ancient Egyptian texts I find this to be more than a standing theory , i will not enter into details but for me is almost a fact . Asetian Bible use a similar technique . Those intentional 'corruptions ' leave the silent key to the proper eye .A school of awareness .
