Sorry if this seems a bit too off topic for some, but whilst I was browsing the forum (when not logged in) I couldn't help but notice how irrelevant some of the advertising banners had become. Car insurance, Equifax...even British Gas!

I know it's of no real consequence. I suppose this could be construed as more of a rant than anything else. But it can be quite off-putting...especially for those who rarely log-in (we know your'e out there) Twisted Evil

Anyway, have a good Sunday all.

lol I suppose you're right.

But... Anyone with a registered account sees no advertising at all anyways, and given that getting an account in this forum and unlike some other places is completely free, open and straight-forward, someone really interested in reading the vast contents of Vampirism Forum has no reason to see any adverts.

Talibah, I'm afraid the banners included in the webview of non-registered users are selected by Google and there isn't much the administration can do about it.
You are correct that many users read this forum daily without logging in or registering for an account. You would actually be surprised with how many hits and views we get every day from people that don't actively participate in the community, but that is their choice alone and as Jonathan mentioned we provide free accounts to everyone, giving anyone a free option of an entirely ad-free service. Not many other communities out there do that.
There are many people that register an account in here simply to read the forum, choosing not to participate in the open discussions and those terms are accepted by the administration, while others opt not to register at all. It is their choice and their motivations are theirs alone, but those without an account will continue to be exposed to those banners.

Hello Sybil..lovely to see you. I hope you are well.
I totally agree with both you and Jonathan and fully understand the situation.

The reason behind my post was purely for amusement really. I have been here long enough to know how the system works and maybe i was pointlessly picking hole in it - for which I apologise. (hense the title of the topic).

I actually wouldn't be all that surprised at how many hits and views this forum gets on a daily basis - I know how informative it is.
Please don't misunderstand me, I don't have a problem with the banners (perhaps I worded it wrongly). They aren't terrible intrusive. I was just pointing out the irrelevance of them...normally engines are clever enough to advertise likewise things according to the site they are displaying on. But then, I suppose technology (be it auto or humanly instigated) hasn't quite caught up to where it is most efficiently utilised.

Please feel free to ignore me. No harm or insinuation of lack was intended. Simply an observation. tongue
